BGP is probably the most complicated of the routing protocols in the world of networking. However it is also the most flexible and adaptable one. The fact is it is also one of the slowest ones.

It is the routing protocol of the Internet.
Although many companies use it too in different internal routing scenarios, especially for MPLS routing, to pair with MPLS providers or within datacenters to have the ability to provide good redundancy path based of specific parameters.
One of the best writings on BGP I came across recently comes from Kevin Wallace. Kevin is great Cisco trainer, multiple CCIE and real expert on anything Cisco networking related. I follow him for last few years and I am subscribed to his newsletter.
